ClimatePrediction.net

ClimatePrediction.net is a project to forecast global climate in the 21st century. It makes use of BOINC software which allows the project to harness unused computing power on many thousands of home computers. It is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Department of Trade and Industry(DTI). It has attracted support from other bodies, most notably the BBC, which is promoting it strongly. At any one time, tens of thousands of home computers can be donating their spare computing power to the project. By 1 October 2006, almost 250,000 computers had contributed to the project.
