The MySRB login page (Figure 1) asks for the following data:

  • SRB user name
  • SRB user domain name
  • SRB user password
  • SRB port number (typically 5544)
  • SRB zone
  • SRB host
  • Time before you are automatically logged out (default is 60 minutes)

Once you have logged in, you are presented with a window (Figure 2) with a confirmation of the collection you want to go to and the delightful button entitled "Take me to my collection". All you need to do is click this button and you are in the SRB!

The standard interface has a set of buttons along the top and bottom. The more important buttons for most users are:

  • Move up, which takes you up a level. If you are in your top level directory, going up a level will give you a view of all users' areas.
  • Ingest file, which means upload a file in SRB-speak.
  • Create file, which enables you to create a text file.
  • Make Collection, which means make a folder or directory in SRB-speak.
  • On-line help.
  • Exit MySRB, which stands for itself!

The other buttons have somewhat more specialised functions, which most people will not usually need.

The window is then divided into two sections, one for files within the collection, and the other for sub-collections.

File view

Each file has associated information

  • Name
  • Creation date and time
  • Owner (ie SRB user)
  • Replica number
  • Version number
  • File size
  • Data type (eg PDF, text etc)
  • Resource, which means the SRB vault on which the file is held
  • Whether the file is within a container

Against each file is a menu selector, a text button, and a download button. Clicking on the text button will display the contents of a text file, and clicking on the download button will give you a download of the file to your browser's default download space (you don't get the option of where to download to). The menu selector gives a large number of options, the most important of which are

  • Rename
  • Replicate
  • Copy file
  • Move file
  • Control access
  • Delete file

Other options concern insertion and display of metadata, handling replicas, and access control via the use of tickets.

Collection view

The collections have the following information

  • Creation date and time
  • Collection owner

Against each collection is a menu selection and a folder icon. Clicking on the folder icon will bring up the contents of the folder. The menu selector gives a number of options, the most important of which are

  • Open collection
  • Copy collection
  • Move collection
  • Control access
  • Rename collection
  • Delete collection

Other options are primarily concerned with metadata.

Metadata management

There are several ways to add metadata to the files and collections within SRB via the MySRB interface and using the metadata options in the menu bars associated with each file and collection:

  • Annotations
  • Metadata name/value pairs (with units)
  • Dublin core metadata

It is also possible to add comments to files and collections.
