Using NIEeS Access Grid Services
From GridInfo
NIEeS is running both Access Grid 2.4 and 3.0 servcies.
Access Grid 2.4
NIEeS is providing three AG2.4 venues at the Access Grid Support Centre (AGSC), Manchester, and one at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge.
- AGSC Venues
- NIEeS-1 https://ag2server.ag.manchester.ac.uk:8000/Venues/0000010a2151ca2e00c0009600b8005ae14
- NIEeS-2 https://ag2server.ag.manchester.ac.uk:8000/Venues/0000010a2c2c677200c0009600b8005ae3b
- NIEeS-3 https://ag2server.ag.manchester.ac.uk:8000/Venues/0000010a2c2e42d500c0009600b8005a538
- Cambridge Venue

NIEeS is also providing Bridge Services for those who do not have a multicast enabled network.
- Bridge Server (AG2.4): bridge.escience.cam.ac.uk
In order to use this bridge, please open ports 30000-30011 tcp for your firewall.
Access Grid 3.0.1
NIEeS is running an AG 3.0.1 Venue Server for people to use.
- Cambridge Venues
- NIEeS-AG3.0.1 https://agiraffe.niees.group.cam.ac.uk:8000/Venues/80e8e82a0bc83cdf1c1be5a22b481a83

AG Connector
AG Connector is a solution for multicast connectivity problems of Access Grid. It can be thought of as a next generation Bridge. AG Connector solves the problem where AG cannot run behind a network address translation (NAT) server, or firewall. AG Connector provides multicast connectivity between users using a UDP Multicast tunneling protocol. Only port 8010 UDP needs to be open on your firewall.
Download it from http://ace.nm.gist.ac.kr/AG_Connector/download/AG_Connector-0.5.zip
The AG Connector zip file includes.
Umtp_win32.exe Umtp_linux AGConnector.py Ptheread.dll
Installation of AG Connector is pretty simple. One can run the following commands:
agpm.py –z AG_Connector.zip
The concept of the AG connector can be seen as following figure.
Currently, NIEeS is deploying a UMTP server at agorilla.niees.group.cam.ac.uk and testing AG Connector on a wireless network using private IP addresses, and also on a network that blocks multicast.
To start it is straight forward. One can using “Start Application Session” > AG Connector.
Then open AG Connector from Application Sessions, you will be able to see AG Connector window.
Then, from the file> UMTP server> you can chose the UMTP server, in this case, it is agorilla.niees.group.cam.ac.uk
Now, you should be able to got multicast packets even you are in the private IP address behind the NAT.
